This is the English translation of the original Czech blog post. The diret speech is not accurate, but how I remember it...
It's Tuesday afternoon, all the meetings are behind us, it's time to check e-mails. The University of South Australia circulates a newsletter every month will various news. The February one just landed in Tracey's mailbox.
"Hey Tomas, come and look at something."
"What is it?"
"This is how the Great Hall will look like - today we saw the construction site."
"... for thousand dollars you can have there your name and three words. Do you get it? Thousand dollars, such a huge money! How anyone can afford it?"
"Well, I understand it. For someone, thousand dollars is not so big money. For having his name written there."
"But thousand dollars, it's a lot of money!"
"Not for everyone. I beleive there will be people willing to pay for it."
"But probably not the ones with academic salary."
"Yeah, those probably not."
Just for information, the salary of a university teacher is around 5000 dollars per month. Then I started working again. After some time, Tracey announces:
"You know what? I just paid for that."
"For what?"
"Those thousand dollars to have my name in the Great Hall!"
"Really?"
"Yes, it can be paid in parts. Fifty dollars per month, for 20 months. It is not so bad, is it?"
"But it is still 1000 dollars."
"Yes, but it hurts less this way. And it is my university and I want to have my name there. And I want it at the swimming pool."
"Is it because of what I said?"
"Yes. So you have to help me to think of those three words."
As far as she wants just those three words, I am fine. When Tracey charges me for that, it will be worse :-) Fortunatelly it was the day we invited her and her husband Philip for dinner to our place. So I could iron it out.
"And don't tell Philip!"
